HVGA Garden Outing: Spring at Stonecrop

Love a good garden field trip, but don’t have anyone to enjoy them with? HVGA Garden Outings are for you! From the very beginning we knew HVGA’s program roster would include bringing folks together to explore the many garden destinations of the Hudson Valley. HVGA’s Garden Outing program is for everyone interested in getting out to visit the nurseries, gardens and events of our region with fellow gardeners. Outings are scheduled on a monthly basis at the HVGA meeting and future outings will be posted on Hudson Valley Garden Calendar, HVGA website and on Facebook.

The first HVGA Garden Outing was to Stonecrop Gardens in Cold Spring for Spring Open House Week in late March. Barbara met us at the Potting Shed, gave a brief history of the garden in the Conservatory and sent us on our way, plant list in hand, to check out the many special specimens Stonecrop tends under glass…

Citrus medica var. sarcodactylis, known as Buddha’s Hand or Fingered citron

A small sampling of the pelargonium collection.

There was something extra special about being in the Conservatory surrounded by towering plants, with snow on the ground outside.

The Alpine, Pit and other houses offer an amazing collection of plant treasures…

Part of our first outing group – energized by the visit and ready for spring!
